I grew up in southern California so I went to high school in Granada Hills, California. Then I went up to Provo, Utah and attended Brigham Young University and got my degree in biology there. After that, I went to Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and obtained my dental degree there.
I've taken quite a few courses in the early years of dentistry. Took simple course on crowns and bridges and bonding and various things like that. Root canals and spent a lot of time learning advanced techniques for root canals. In recent years, I've been a member of the Seattle Study Club which delves into complex courses and more extended complex treatment plans. I've been taking courses related to that in recent years as I've gained more experience in the simpler things.
The patients benefit because as I keep up with the latest techniques ... Techniques get us to the point where we're doing dentistry a little faster and a little more comfortably and more efficiently. They're in the chair less time with less discomfort. It benefits them in that they get a better quality of product from us.

After high school, I had the opportunity to work with an oral surgeon, and that helped me to really understand that I wanted to do something in the medical field. However, a few particular experiences. One especially, this girl who had a large cyst on her cheek, and she came in and I thought that had to have hurt her self-confidence. I just remember watching the doctor so skillfully moving that cyst and patching it up after as well, and also the gratitude of the patient after. I just wanted to work with patients, with people, and to help them with their physical needs. Dentistry has a lot to offer. I get to help people who are sick, who are hurting, who are having a tough time, and helping them to heal. With dentistry, you get to also help people with their aesthetics, their smile, their self-esteem, their appearance as well.
